Proof of Humanity

Overview

The Proof of Humanity task filters out obviously automated accounts. It checks that the contributor has a Zealy profile picture, a display name and an email address on their account, and a connected X (Twitter) account with a profile picture, then screens that X profile and its recent posts. It is a bot filter, not a sybil filter: it does not detect one person running several accounts, and it does not read the contributor's Zealy activity.

How to Add a "Proof of Humanity" Task

1. Click on 'Add task'.
2. Choose 'Proof of Humanity'.
3. The task will automatically be configured to analyze user authenticity.

How It Works

When a user attempts to complete this task, our system performs a comprehensive analysis:

Zealy profile checks:

• The contributor must have a profile picture and a display name
• The contributor must have an email address on their account
• No Zealy activity is read — not claims, quests, XP, timing or velocity

X (Twitter) account checks:

• The contributor must have a connected X account with a profile picture
• The account must be following at least 50 accounts
• The account must have at least 10 followers
• An AI model reviews the profile and the account's last 10 posts for obvious automation patterns

If the X profile or timeline cannot be fetched, the check passes rather than blocking the contributor. A passing result is cached for 24 hours. A failure at the X or AI stage is cached for 1 hour, so the contributor can try again after that; the earlier checks — missing profile picture, name, email or X connection — are not cached and are re-run each time.

Benefits

Use the Proof of Humanity task for:

• Bot prevention: filtering out cheap automated accounts and spam signups

Do not use it as anti-sybil protection. An aged X account with a profile picture, 50 follows and 10 followers passes, and one person can hold several such accounts.
